Cake Toppers with Glitz!

January 30, 2010

Vicki Sigg created the crystal monogram cake topper business, Cake Toppers with Glitz,  after making one for her own wedding on April 23, 2005.

She had a crystal covered monogram in mind but the product she had in mind didn’t exist… yet. Even for the crafty Do It Yourself-er she is, the pieces required to make the letters were expensive and difficult to find. She didn’t want something with a cheap plastic look and feel, it had to be an elegantly crafted piece of metal. The aluminum letters had to be custom made, but light enough to not sink into the cake and with pegs strong enough to hold the letters up. Vicki’s creative talent combined with plenty of trial and error left her with cake topper masterpieces. She has perfected what size letter looks best, how many color combinations work well, and what size crystals provide the most thorough coverage.

Here’s her work!  Vicki also creates custom cake knives and other decorative crystal pieces!

Photofetti is inexpensive and can be personalized, it’s 1″ in diameter so it won’t be difficult to clean up at the end of an event… Most guests will likely want to gather the cute little circles and take them home.  If you order photofetti, you can submit up to TEN IMAGES to appear on the paper circles, so lots of variety, AND you get to select accent colors to be mixed in with your photo images!

Celebrations Catering fed 130 Astro Physicists Saturday night at the Florida Museum of Natural HistoryWho knew what to expect from a group of international and intelligent physicists and mathmeticians?  I can’t say we had a good read on this group, as this was possibly our first catering for this type of population.  Well our client, Kristin Nichola, knows them well.  She selected some hearty appetizers and a very upscale plated salad, lamb and pork carving stations, grilled teriyaki salmon steaks, a pasta station, mashed potato station, and for dessert… mini pies and treats for each table, served during the lecture program.

A fun challenge for this event was creating unique centerpieces, something non-floral,  something not too expensive but something that accentuated our blue and black Astro-Physics theme.  Gay, our floral designer, helped me with some “planetary, outer-space” looking models that included blue colored water and blue glass gems… silver stars and some styrophone, all from the dollar store.  With a little spray paint and minimal assemblage time, we kept the price under $13.00 per table!  Amazing!

When Kristin had seven cases of wine delivered to Celebrations for this event, and no soda, no beer, no punch… I had to question what physicists drink at parties.  She was right, they are uninimous wine drinkers!  Keeping their glasses full during the event, our staff excelled at table service!  Thank you Celebrations Caterers!

Thanks also to Robyn, our host at the Museum, who professionally took over Saturday night for Karen, our seasoned Museum Event Planner.  We were able to “sneak” into the Museum while their over 800 visitors on Saturday mingled throughout the exhibits.  (to see the last few days of the Amazon Exhibit!) Everyone there is helpful, the security team treats us like royalty, we are grateful.

Back in December I asked James Pion and Stephanie Carpenter (Mode Salon Fame), of Vivo Capture, to stop by one of our Christmas parties at Villa East and take some photos of the new place!  I was anxious to upload some to our web site and here to the blog!  I want you guys to see the beautiful setting we have created there!  Since December holidays are our busiest time of the year, I have very little time to focus on photography and uploading, so now, in January, here they are!  More to Come!
