Come by and take a look at the intense changes we’ve made at our new Event Venue, Villa East! (NE 3rd & Main Street)

We’ve  taken the “old” and the “1980’s” look away; there’s no hotel carpet, no vertical blinds, no tulip light fixtures, and no more yellow walls and most importantly, no more white ceiling tiles!

The new concrete floor has been acid stained deep brown and has a high gloos finish (great for dancing!), the walls are now  three shades of taupe, the ceilings are now black and there’s a special “bride’s room” that’s slate blue. The bathrooms are warm and rich with a deep lavender color paint and some really cool acrylic and silver lamps.   Acrylic ceilings fans have been installed, a new patio cocktail hour is being designed for outside, with privacy from the parking area… and a new black iron fence now surrounds the parking area.

If you went to this location before the transformation, you really won’t recognize it now.

 You’ll love the new look!

Had to share this great fabric print… working on a photo booth back drop for some holiday parties at Villa East.  Project incomplete, but coming soon.   I’m thinking white very large snowflakes for photo props, some large lime green ornaments, green garland, santa hats (not red of course), extra large candy canes, and whatever else i can find fun at the Dollar Store and Big Lots in a rush!

Gary Miller, from Jori International (linens), pays me a delightful visit (sales call) several times a year.  He lugs in three very large cases of linen samples and Pamela, our money manager immediately cringes in fear of what I will spend!  Gary is from Toronto and drives these samples all over the country, and thus knows pretty much everything about fabrics, wash ability and color trends.

Hanging out with him in my office for nearly five hours last week, attracted lots of attention from the rest of the girls in our office, as Gary and I basically drowned ourselves in color swatches, separating the maybe’s, the yes’s and the absolutely nots into three separate piles.  While I try and be practical, ordering lots of black, ivory and white, I am immediately attracted the the lively prints and bright colors.  I really just wanted it all.

Having beautiful table linens can make a party’s ambiance superior.  Color is a simple way to improve the look of any event venue… but how many requests will I have for deep purples and hot pinks, green shimmer sequins and pastel vintage Laura Ashley prints?  Once Tracy came in to help me sort, she started a list and insisted I be practical…no I couldn’t just have everything.   Soon my pile became an acceptable size and the purchase order Gary wrote up was finalized.  Pamela had to leave the room!

We all came to an affordable agreement and a shipment is now on the way.  May the party that is planned for the day the linens arrive be flexible enough for me to break out the new linens, even if they weren’t the chosen  colors!  Thanks Gary, our exploration of your three sample cases will be needed again very soon!

Some of My Final Favorites!

When asked by my client Debra Hope how to pull off a nice company party without spending too much, I replied “let’s make it look fun and have lots of signature drinks, focus on making the ambiance non-corporate… and have a cocktail party with a fun theme.”  The party was a couple of days ago and our plan worked.  We selected Italian colors, Italian food and Italian beverages.  We turned down the lights at Emerson Alumni Hall, focusing on uplights and string lights, rather than commercial lighting.  We elected to have the party in the downstairs lobby, where huge windows and the lights on University Avenue are the focus.  We opted NOT to use the upstairs banquet room, since a seated dinner was not in the plans or the budget.  The lobby got a makeover, arranging the pub tables around a big dance floor in the center of the room, and the bar was huge and somewhat gaudy.  We added two very large silver cherubs as a centerpiece to the Sangria Station, some Italian flags, and went light on the actual “holiday” decor.  We met our budget and the guests enjoyed the change of pace.  Thank you Debra for allowing Celebrations Catering to create a magical evening for you and your guests.
