A special thanks to Tami Pomponi at the UF Department of Surgery, who fully loves, trusts and admires the entire Celebrations Catering Team.  We’ll be catering this event again next year, at Villa East!

When Kaycie came to Celebrations Catering for her first wedding consultation she brought a shoebox and a jewelry box.  When I saw her sparkling blue shoes and the beaded vintage necklace she had made to wear on wedding day I could envision her creative reception immediately.   We quickly looked at linen colors, talking about her eclectic, creative theme.  Food discussions came much later in the conversation!  As Kaycie and I planned together over the next few months, she brought new ideas and samples, collected vintage vases and  made paper pinwheels, made her own cupcake stands, and created individual thank you cards for her guests.  Everything looked amazing in the historic Thomas Center setting.  Kaycie and Jamie walked down the aisle to a live accoustic guitar, the shiny blue shoes had their 15 minutes of fame and perfectly complimented Jamie’s blue paisley necktie.

Guests were given oriental fans for cooling offSylvia and Mark planned a lovely backyard wedding, nestled in the shady oaks, letting nature be the theme.  Their home is very warm and welcoming, so we included lots of their eclectic style in the reception.  Friends and family arrived for the ceremony early, and enjoyed mimosas and appetizers before the 11am wedding, making everyone mingle and feel comfortable right from the start.  Harp music, then later a live band, made the summer atmosphere enjoyable, while guests tried foods from four of the different stations, including a beautiful cranberry-orange glazed country ham, Celebrations’ signature grits, fresh fruit, and potato wedges fried to order.  The wedding cake was made by Jenny Wagner, and the flowers by the bride and her sister.

“You guys rocked on Saturday! It all looked gorgeous and beautiful and fit our style perfectly. And the food was delicious! Guests repeatedly told me how good the food was!  Thank you for all you did. So happy you did the catering. You are truly an artist and a pleasure to work with.”    Sylvia & Mark, 6/5/10 Wedding

For Katie and Justin,  a wedding reception should be casual, fun, relaxed and more of a party, a family dinner, than a formal evening of rituals.  Since they had married “nautical style” already, a few weeks earlier, they elected to celebrate their union with hints of an ocean/beach theme.  There were no formal introductions, and Katie’s dress was comfy for the summer weather.  The pre-reception stress was nowhere to be found, as Katie, Justin and their families arrived fifteen minutes before the guests to view the creative displays and food, then greet their arriving friends and family to the aroma of grilled Angus hamburgers.  Everything about this reception was easy-going, giving the guest a big signal to mingle, chat, eat and relax… more like a family reunion and less like a wedding reception.

For Celebrations Catering, year after year the UF College of Medicine leads as our largest catering client.  For this, we are grateful to all of those who schedule and attend these catered events!  We especially want to recognize Susan Major, again this year, as a preferred client, one whom we appreciate endlessly, not only for the amount of business she extends to us, but for the exceptional attitude she shares with our catering staff.  Because she is so kind to us, we gave her event the VIP treatment this weekend!  Her social included a photo booth, a “Susan Major” margarita, tropical background music, a projected photo presentation of the College of Medicine’s doctors and staff, a huge selection of appetizers, hors d’ oeuvres, and entreess (tostones, Cuban pork, mango sorbet, tropical fruit, fried Gator, Ahi tuna and more!).  The night was colorful and social, perfect for a year end finish!

Kind Words from Susan!

“Leah, I cannot find enough words of praise for Friday night!  The guests were RAVING about it – “We have to have it here EVERY year!!”  “It’s beautiful!”  “What wild food!!”  “A drink named after you?  How cool!”  And on and on they went.  I love especially the part about having it at Villa East EVERY year!  You and your staff made me feel like a VIP for sure!  The event was flawless – all the staff are perfect.  I’m marrying Eddie, by the way, in my next life when I ‘m young and pretty again.  Everyone was wonderful – Jessica introduced herself to me and was so helpful!  Eddie’s  bartender partner was just fantastic and of course, everyone was so pleasant and charming. ”

“Leah, I thank you so very much!  The faculty members asked all about your place so I really  hope you get even more business (if you need more!).  I will see you again at Dr. Edwards’ home on June 24!  ”

Sincerely and gratefully,

Susan A. Major, Program Administrator

Hannah & Pete are both big UF Gator Fans, so not only was their rehearsal dinner a “tailgate” theme… their wedding ceremony was inside the Gator football field, in the stands!  No chair rental required, no decorations required.  Gator pom-poms were the only props, and guests cheered when Pete kissed the bride.  What a lovely backdrop for a ceremony, the entire Gator field of green grass and a quiet stadium with Florida’s Gator colors.

The reception was just inside the ceremony site, at the Touchdown Terrace.  Wayne’s World played great music and the bar opened several hours before the ceremony, so the dancing began immediately after the “I-Dos”.  With very little of a traditional wedding timeline going on, this celebration was a party, a time to have fun..No Rules.  Hannah’s uncle even brought his on Mega-Blender and made signature drinks in the kitchen, right alongside us.  All the girls made friends with Eddie, our dancing bartender, and our staff danced the night away, right along with the crowd.  Work should always be this fun!
